UPSC Prelims Syllabus and Booklist

UPSC preliminary Examination details syllabus and updated booklists:-

Preliminary exam of UPSC consists of two paper:-a)General Studies paper 1 , b)CSAT.

General Studies Paper 1 Syllabus

  1. Current events of National and international importance.
  2. History of India and Indian National  Movement.
  3. India and the World Geography-Physical,Social and Economic geography of India and world.
  4. Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution,Political system,Panchayati Raj,Public Policy,Rights,Issues etc.
  5. Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development,poverty,Inclusion,Demographics,Social sector initiatives etc.
  6. General issues on Environmental Ecology,Biodersity and Climate Change.
  7. General Science.

Syllabus of CSAT paper

  1. Comprehension
  2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  4.  Decision making and problem solving
  5.  General mental ability
  6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level),
  7. Data interpretation(charts,graphs,tables,data sufficiency etc.-class x level)

  1. Indian Polity:- Indian Polity by M.Laxmikanth
  2. Indian History(Ancient,Medieval&Modern):-                       a)History of Modern India by Bipan Chandra, or                            Spectrum's A rief History of Modern India by Rajiv Ahir.      c)Tamil Nadu state board text book of class 12
  3. India and the world Geography:-a)NCERT class 6 to 12            b) India and World Geography by Majid Husain                      c)world Map or Atlas.
  4. Economy:- a)Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh                            b)NCERT class 11 & 12                                                                c)Economic Survey and Budget.
  5. Environment:- a)Environment book by Shankar IAS                           b)Biology class 12                                                                         c)Current affairs issues are relevant.
  6. Art&Culture :- NCERT Fine Arts class 11.
  7. Current  Affairs:- The Hindu or The Indian Express,PIB,Magazines etc.
These are the book list and syllabus of the preliminary exam of UPSC. UPSC syllabus is just under the sun there is no such particular text but these the are very relevant to the exam point of view. the source of study material must be limited.It is better to read one book ten times rather than ten books one time.so Revision is the key mantra.There is 3R i.e.,READ,REVISE,RECALL.
